Traditional artificial turf depends on silica sand or rubber granules to support the grass fibers and provide cushioning.
Over time, these loose infill materials can:
- Shift after heavy foot traffic
- Wash away during heavy rain
- Become compacted
- Collect dust and debris
- Require periodic replenishment
This means routine maintenance often includes brushing, leveling, and refilling the infill.
Non-infill artificial grass eliminates these loose materials entirely.
Instead, premium systems rely on a high-density self-supporting fiber structure that keeps the grass upright without external infill. Carefully engineered straight and curled yarns work together to maintain resilience, appearance, and comfort.
Because there is no loose infill to maintain, overall maintenance requirements are significantly reduced.
What Maintenance Is Still Required?
Although non-infill artificial grass is low maintenance, a few simple tasks will help keep it looking its best.
1. Remove Leaves and Debris
Leaves, twigs, and dust naturally accumulate on any outdoor surface.
Removing debris regularly helps:
- Maintain good drainage
- Prevent organic matter from decomposing
- Keep the lawn looking clean
- Reduce the possibility of moss or weed growth around edges
A leaf blower, soft broom, or plastic rake is usually sufficient.
2. Rinse the Surface Occasionally
Rain often provides natural cleaning, but in dry climates or areas with pets, occasional rinsing is recommended.
Water helps remove:
- Dust
- Pollen
- Mud
- Pet residue
- Food spills
For most residential gardens, rinsing every few weeks—or as needed—is usually enough.
3. Brush High-Traffic Areas
Over time, grass fibers in frequently used areas may lean slightly.
Brushing the fibers with a stiff synthetic broom helps restore their upright appearance.
Premium non-infill turf with resilient fibers generally requires this much less often than conventional artificial grass.
4. Clean Pet Waste Promptly
Pet-friendly artificial grass is easy to clean.
Solid waste should be removed as normal, while liquid waste can typically be rinsed away with water. Mild, turf-safe cleaners may be used when additional odor control is needed.
Good drainage is essential for maintaining a hygienic outdoor surface.
5. Inspect Seams and Edges
Although professionally installed artificial grass is designed for long-term durability, it’s a good idea to inspect seams and edges periodically.
Early repair of any small issues helps prevent larger maintenance problems in the future.
