Higher density does not automatically mean better support or better comfort. If the turf uses only one type of fiber, increasing density may simply make the surface too hard, too stiff, or too difficult to recover after heavy use.
Vivaturf uses a straight-and-curled fiber matrix, commonly designed around a 7:3 structural ratio. In this system:
- High-modulus straight fibers provide upright support and help maintain surface stability.
- High-resilience curled fibers provide cushioning, recovery, and a softer foot feel.
- The two fiber types work together to balance support, comfort, and long-term upright retention.
This structure is especially important for non-infill turf because the fibers must replace the support function normally provided by sand or rubber infill.
A well-engineered straight-and-curled system can achieve better long-term stability than a simple high-density single-yarn product.
Backing Quality Is a Core Performance Factor
The backing is often overlooked, but for non-infill turf it is one of the most important parts of the entire system. Without infill particles, the backing must hold the yarn securely, resist stretching, prevent delamination, and maintain the structural integrity of the field.
Low-quality backing may be thin, weak, or bonded with low-grade adhesives. Over time, moisture, heat, and repeated traffic can cause hydrolysis, cracking, delamination, and yarn pull-out.
Vivaturf uses a reinforced multi-layer backing system designed to improve structural stability and yarn fixation.
Important reference parameters include:
- Yarn pull-out force: ≥35 N
- Backing tensile strength: engineered for long-term structural stability
- Hydrolysis resistance: strength retention ≥95% after 1,000 hours accelerated hydrolysis testing
- Thermal bonding / low-adhesive structural process: helps reduce delamination risk and odor concerns
A turf product with good pile height but weak backing may fail early. A strong backing system helps protect the entire field investment.
