  • Eco-Friendly Artificial Grass for Sustainable Landscaping

Sustainability is a growing concern for homeowners, and eco-friendly artificial grass for sustainable landscaping aligns with green living goals. Traditional lawns consume significant water and chemicals, contributing to environmental strain. Artificial grass offers:

    • Water Conservation: By eliminating the need for irrigation, artificial turf supports eco-conscious living. For instance, a 1,500-square-foot backyard can save up to 30,000 gallons of water annually.
    • Reduced Chemical Use: No fertilizers or pesticides are needed, reducing harmful runoff into local water systems.
    • Recyclable Materials: Many modern artificial grass products are made from recycled plastics, contributing to a circular economy.

A homeowner who switched to eco-friendly artificial grass reported not only lower water bills but also community recognition for their sustainable landscaping efforts, aligning with local environmental initiatives.

  • Maintenance Tips for Artificial Grass on Concrete

Once your artificial grass is installed, you’ll want to keep it looking its best. Here are a few maintenance tips:

    • Regular Brushing: Brush the grass periodically to keep the fibres standing upright and remove any debris.
    • Rinse with Water: Occasionally rinse the grass with water to remove dirt or dust, especially after a dry spell.
    • Remove Stains Promptly: If any spills occur, clean them immediately with mild detergent and water.
  • oin Multiple Pieces (If Necessary)

If your concrete area is large, you may need to join several pieces of artificial grass together.

    1. Align the Seams: Lay the grass pieces side by side, making sure the fibres face the same direction.
    2. Apply Joining Tape: Place the joining tape between the two pieces and apply adhesive along the tape.
    3. Press Down: Press the two edges of the grass together firmly and smooth out the seam with a roller.

    Step 5: Secure the Edges

Securing the edges of your artificial grass ensures it stays in place over time.

    1. Apply Adhesive Around the Perimeter: Lift the edges of the grass and apply outdoor adhesive underneath. Work in small sections to avoid the adhesive drying out.
    2. Press Firmly: Press the grass down firmly onto the adhesive, ensuring there are no gaps.
  • Roll Out the Artificial Grass

Now comes the exciting part—laying out your artificial grass.

    1. Roll Out the Grass: Start by rolling out the artificial grass over the underlay. Be sure to position it so that the fibres all face the same direction for a consistent look.
    2. Let It Rest: Allow the grass to settle for a few hours. This helps the fibres to stand up and reduces the chance of wrinkles.
    3. Trim to Size: Use your tape measure and Stanley knife to trim the grass to fit the space exactly. Be sure to leave a small gap (about 1 cm) around the edges for expansion in warm weather.
  • The Other Benefits of Fake Grass

Aside from safety and maintenance, turf comes in a variety of colors and can easily be placed around irregular shapes. If your climate only allows for certain types of–or no grass at all–going artificial gives you more options. And if you think fake grass is easy to tell apart from natural grass, think again! You’ll be surprised by how easily turf fools you and your guests.

Not only is artificial turf a good option around your pool, but you can easily finish off your landscape with stone or concrete walkways. Fake grass also complements decks and patios.

Perhaps the strongest argument for artificial grass around your pool is how long it lasts. Your home is an investment, one that includes your yard and pool. Fake grass can’t become sick and die like the real thing, and high traffic areas won’t succumb no matter how many human or furry feet walk across it. Surrounding your pool with turf could even increase your property value when it comes time to sell.

  • DIY Can Lower Your Deduction

In a normal case, you can deduct both the cost of the labor and the cost of the materials for your new fence. However, you can’t deduct the cost of your own labor- which means if you choose to DIY your fence you could miss out on some of the tax savings. There are also several other reasons why a DIY fence is a bad idea, so consider all factors before endeavoring to install a new fence yourself.

A quality fence is a wise investment for many reasons- including the potential to save money on your taxes. Whether the benefits are seen immediately or further in the future, all of these considerations are good to keep in mind. Consult with a tax professional before you embark on a project as potential tax savings. You can read more about tax deductions for home projects on the IRS website. • Repair Vs. Replacement

‍Many people ask “is replacing a fence tax deductible?” For tax purposes, it matters what type of work you’re doing to your fence. The IRS differentiates between a repair and an improvement (or new fence). If you purchase a home with an existing fence in disrepair, you can’t add the cost of fixing the fence to your tax basis. In this case, repairing it is considered regular maintenance of the home.

When it comes to repairing fence damage from the wind or one that had significant rotting, repairing these instances is not considered an improvement. However, if you replace an existing fence with a new fence that is different, this constitutes an improvement. You may need a full replacement due to damage or due to use case (for example, if you need to build your fence to a new fence height for privacy.)

  • Business Property Rules for Tax Deductions

If you own a business, you’re likely familiar with the rules for business expense deductions. Like other business expenses, your new fence needs to be ordinary and necessary to the business in order to classify as a legitimate deduction.

There are several reasons why a new fence would be necessary for your business, however. For example, an old fence that poses a safety hazard would need to be replaced for the sake of your business. A privacy fence may be necessary, depending on the nature of your business. A chain-link fence may be necessary to clearly mark your business property line and keep out intruders, etc.

Improvements to your business property are typically deductible on the taxes filed for the year that the project is completed.
